Technical Forecast

Forecast Period...

Expect today to be highs in the low to mid 40's throughout the state. These unseasonably cool temperatures are associated with a closed low pressure center located in Canada. The cyclonic flow around this low pressure center will advect cooler air into our region as high pressure builds in our area during the week. The cold air advection is strong at 700mb and 850mb. This means the potential high temperatures were kept cooler in the forecast period. At the surface, expect a secondary cold frontal passage to pass through our area in the afternoon today. Even though the forecast says sunny conditions expect possible clouds to form this afternoon. Northern Connecticut may see some flurries as a result of lake effect snow. The lake effect snow is a result of strong northwesterly winds passing over "warm" lake waters. Winds today will be blustery with gusts as high as 40mph in the afternoon. This will result in winter like temperatures with the wind chill.

High pressure will build through Thursday. A low pressure center will develop off the coast on Friday and will bring precipitation to the majority of the state. This storm will drop precipitation in the form of rain. I suspect much of the higher precipitation totals will be in southern/southeastern CT as this storm will track a more southerly track. This storm will make its way out to see Saturday as high pressure will begin to build in for the weekend.

Please continue to watch wxextreme for any updates to the forecast.
